Framing the Use of AI for a Flourishing Workplace: A Taxonomy for Human Centricity in an Industrial Context

As part of the EUWIN and Bridges 5.0 events schedule, the SEISMEC project was invited to the “Framing the use of AI for a Flourishing Workplace: A Taxonomy for Human Centricity in an Industrial Context” webinar, which took place online on Friday, 30th of May 2025.

The SEISMEC project’s coordinator, Jason Pridmore, from Erasmus University Rotterdam, was invited as a keynote speaker to join the webinar and share his views and expertise on the topic.

The session reviewed how a human-centric approach to AI can ensure that technological advancements align with the broader goals of Industry 5.0, promoting a more equitable and inclusive work environment.

The webinar provided a conceptual analysis of human-centric approaches to AI in the context of Industry 5.0, emphasising the democratisation of the workplace and the holistic integration of technology with human well-being.

Key Insights

  • Industry 5.0
    • Goes beyond efficiency and focuses on sustainability, resilience and human well-being.
    • AI must support – not replace – human potential.
    • Rethinks how work is organised and experienced.
  • Three solution pathways to human-centric AI
Each approach responds differently to the human-centric challenge.

    • Technology Accountability > Interventionist Solution: Build Trust and Control.
    • Environmental Design > Transactional Solution: Optimise Human-Computer Interfaces.
    • Human-Infused Design > Participatory solution: Design With, Not for people.

Human-Centric AI is a set of choices; continuous, co-shaped choices that shape how people work, feel and thrive.

Jason Pridmore’s presentation was based on his academic paper “Orienting AI for a Flourishing Workplace: A Taxonomy for Human Centricity in an Industrial Context” which will soon be available publicly.

Stay tuned with the SEISMEC project and never miss an update.
