Understanding workers’ interaction with digital technologies  – SEISMEC at Forum Bauinformatik 2026

SEISMEC research was presented at Forum Bauinformatik 2026 by TU Berlin, bringing insights from empirical studies conducted at three SEISMEC pilot sites. Representing the project, Prof. Nayab Bushra, Quang Thanh Ngo and Arina Rahma participated in the Forum and presented two papers exploring how workers interact with digital technologies in real working environments.

The paper “Embodied Navigation: Investigation on Audio-Visual-Spatial Cognition and Workload Taxonomy in Technology-Mediated Space” examined how audio-visual information in voice-directed warehousing affects workers’ cognitive workload and navigation. The second paper, “Toward Human-Centric Adaptive Recovery Support in Digital Industrial Work: An Exploratory Cross-Case Synthesis of Breakdown Situations”, investigated breakdown situations in technology-supported work and how adaptive user interfaces could better support workers when problems occur.

Together, the studies indicate that technological breakdowns are not simply isolated interface failures, but structured events with identifiable conditions, sources and spatial origins. Recovery support should therefore respond to the specific context rather than rely on a fixed solution. This reflects the SEISMEC human-centric approach, where digital workplaces are understood as socio-spatial environments and technologies are designed around how people actually work, move, interact and respond to unexpected situations.
